Installation
System items required
This version of Apple Telecom ISDN was designed for any Macintosh with a PowerPC-based processor, a PCI bus and that is running System software 7.5.2 or higher.
Hardware items required
At least one Planet-ISDN PCI 3 card must be installed in your computer.
Software installation
You will find two distinct installation files on the installation disk.
• ISDN & Fax/Modem Software : this file installs all items necessary for the use of digital (ISDN) and analog (Fax, Modem, Telephony) services.
Notes :
- The extensions that might be incompatible with Apple Telecom ISDN are automatically de-activated: ThePhone Extension, ThePhone Light Extension, telephone tools…
- The telephone handsets shipped with previous versions of the card are not managed in this mode.
- The performances of the modem depend on the type and speed of the processor of your computer.
• ISDN Software only : this file only installs the items necessary to digital (ISDN) connections, and does not include analog services (Fax, Modem, Telephony).
Update of previous versions
If you have a previous version of Apple Telecom installed on your computer, you must first de-install it using the original items supplied for installation (installation disks, CD-Rom...)
Compatibility of Apple Telecom ISDN with LocalTalk
When using analog services (Fax, Modem, Telephone), it is highly recommended to de-activate LocalTalk. To do so, disconnect any LocalTalk hardware connected to the Printer Port (peripherals connected serially can stay connected). Unless otherwise done, your local network can be temporarily unavailable and/or data exchanged via the modem can be corrupted.
Connection Script (CCL) for Apple Remote Access or PPP
Use the following connection script with Apple Remote Access or PPP
GeoPort/Express Modem ISDN
This file is installed both in the Extensions folder of the System Folder and in the Modem Scripts folder of the Extensions folder
Simultaneous use of ISDN and fax/modem connection
The simultaneous use of digital (ISDN) and analog (Fax, Modem, Telephony) connections can lead to transmission errors or communication breaks. As a consequence, it is recommended not to use both services simultaneously.
Moreover, Apple Telecom ISDN only manages one analog communication at a time. It is thus not possible to establish two simultaneous analog communications (Fax and voice, Modem and voice...)
Configurations with several Planet ISDN PCI 3 cards
If several Planet-ISDN PCI 3 are installed in your computer, Apple Telecom automatically uses the first card detected, which is the first one according to the numerical order of the PCI bus of your computer.
Audio settings
Analog communications are made in hands free mode. The audio source comes from the microphone connected to your computer (or built in the monitor, depending on configurations) and sound comes out from the connected speakers. As such, the audio parameters for your communications must be set from the Sound or Monitors and Sound Control panel of your System. The audio settings of the Apple Phone application allows you to qualify the basics settings made in the Control panel.
Apple Phone and the keypad
To place a call from the Apple Phone keypad, dial your correspondent's number, then click on the # key to establish the communication.
Note : You will not be able to hear your correspondent if you set the sound on silence in the Sound or Monitors & Sound Control panel.
